In today’s world we live in a country that is full of pride.  We constantly brag about the things we have done or are going to do.  We finish projects or tasks; stand back and say “What a great job I have done.”  While having self-esteem isn’t a sin, I think that we need to be careful and realize why we are able to do what we do.  Through the power and grace of God He has given us the opportunities that come up in our lives.  Therefore, with all of the blessings we do receive we need to be sure and give the glory to God.

The desire to give glory to God extends beyond praise and worship.  We acknowledge that He is all knowing and just.  We can repent and make an open confession before Him and we must present a truthful account.  When Jesus healed a man blind from birth, the Pharisees tried to dishonor Jesus while still appearing to honor God.  “So for the second time they called in the man who had been blind and told him, ‘Give glory to God by telling the truth, because we know Jesus is a sinner” (John 9:24).  The Jews badgered him hoping to break his testimony.  The former beggar chose safe ground, he chose the truth and his own experience.  This man’s open confession provided the weight of simple truth, giving glory to God.

Those that choose to give glory to God will discover reasons to celebrate every day of their lives.  In our adoration, we set aside the physical nature to be set apart for God.  As we worship the Lord of heaven and earth, we can experience the magnificence of His holiness.  In Psalms 96, all earth is summoned to give glory to God.  When Christ completed His work on earth, He entered into His glory in heaven.  Clothed in robes of majesty and crowned in glory, the beauty of holiness is embodied in Christ.  David seems to be summoning the angels to give glory to God as well, worshipping Him in the beauty of His holiness.  Even in frightful thunderstorms, God’s glory resounds (Psalm 29:1-3).

When things are going bad and when things are going really good, we need to be sure and give all the glory to God.  In everything that we do, we do to glorify our Lord and savior.  We can’t make this journey alone.  Everything that happens is not because of our great power that we sometimes think we have.  We have to put our trust in the things that come from above and put all of our faith in Him.  So today, let’s put away our pride and give all the glory to God.
